The World Looks Red

Aujourd'hui, interview dans la langue de Shakespeare de Laura, du blog The World Looks Red, parce que j'adore son univers poétique et féérique. Douée en mode, mais aussi en photographie, Laura nous fait vooyger, et ca fait du bien !

1) Can you quickly describe your blog and introduce yourself ?

My name is Laura Gommans, I’m a 20-year-old photographer and fashion-enthusiast from Amsterdam. I have a blog called The World Looks Red (title stolen from a Sonic Youth song), where I post my photos alongside stories and things that keep me busy.

2) Where do you get your inspiration?

Just out and about on the internet, I guess. Sites like Lookbook.nu are full of great fashion ideas, and I’d to be able to afford love runwayfashion, Chanel and Balenciaga are always wonderful. But really I just buy what I think is pretty (and remotely affordable).

3) What is your favorite movie / song / book?

My favourite movie is The Dark Crystal by Jim Henson. I guess that’s something I took with me from my childhood. I just think it’s magical and so creatively crafted. Everything is computer-generated these days but I that doesn’t work for me at all. I’m glad I grew up watching movies like this and the Neverending Story and The Labyrinth. Kids aren’t provoked to use their imagination anymore these days.

My favourite song is really hard to choose, but I’d probably choose Mountains Made Of Steam by A Silver Mt Zion.

My favourite books are No One Belongs Here More Than You by Miranda July, and Extremely Loud And Incredibly Close. These books are so refreshingly beautiful, even recommended if you’re not that into reading.

4) How much do you spend on clothes every month, on average?

One month I’ll hardly buy anything, and at other times I can spend 100€ a week. I guess it’ll come down to an average of about 75€ a month.

5) What's your fashion philosophy ?

I think I’m a lot more balanced than I used to be. I used to buy lots and lots of things I’d wear once and then would disappear into a murky corner of one of my 5 (!) closets. These days I tend to think before I buy; I try to evaluate if I’d actually wear something. In the end I’d rather buy 1 awesome piece than 4 ‘kinda cool’ things.

6) Do you have icons ?

I think Irina Lazareanu always looks great, she’s beautiful. Other than that anyone with Birkin-genes seem to dress awfully well (Jane Birkin, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Lou Doillon…)

7) when it comes to fashion, what would you never wear ?

Harem-trousers. I think they just don’t look flattering on anyone except super-tall models.

8) a small list of other blogs you love?
